As the youngest of six children at Boyert's Greenhouse and Far, 18-year-old Clayton Boyert is raising six heifers and nine pigs, while taking care of 15 additional cows with hopes of building a future in the cattle industry. He led his shorthorn heifer to win the championship at the National Junior Shorthorn Competition in Des Moines, Iowa, this summer.

Willoughby's Tom Powell got his first lesson in demolition derby at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds last summer. Powell, a 53-year-old master technician at Mazda-Saab of Bedford, placed second in his first derby behind 21-year-old Ashley "Smashley" Saponari of North Royalton. Older, wiser and a little sorer, Powell returns to the event this year.
