Burger Time

B Spot // It doesn't take long to figure out that Michael Symon's B Spot is our Iron Chef's interpretation of a Steak 'n Shake, and I mean that in a good way. His version trades flimsy beef patties for hearty burgers and tired milkshake flavors for "Bad **s" ones. The results are impressive, and really, we all should have seen that Vanilla Bean Apple Pie Bacon shake coming ($5, $8 with a shot of bourbon). The menu focuses on bar snacks, burgers, brats, bologna, beer and the aforementioned shakes. There are salads and a veggie burger, appropriately named Why?? ($7), but they seem out of place here. Order the Symon Says ($8), a burger topped with bologna, coleslaw, whip sauce and American cheese, or the Clevelander ($5), bratwurst piled high with coleslaw, hot sauce and fries. If you're looking for a side to share, don't miss the porky fries ($7), pulled-pork-covered spuds so tasty you won't need B Spot's house-made condiments. It's worth noting that this is not a place for diners who want to hang out and order food in stages. When we tried, our waiter explained that everything is meant to arrive at the same time. Don't let that keep you away. Symon's inventive fare is worth the trip.
