Rating the Suburbs - Mentor

Lisa Pasquale, 28
founder and manager of Mentor Ultimate Frisbee League
It all started in 2005. I was dating a guy on the West Side. Every Sunday, he’d disappear to go play Frisbee. I’d get so mad.

You know, it’s a girl thing: What are you doing on a Sunday that’s more important than hanging out with me?

Bellflower Park was an incredible find for us. It’s in a housing development. If you didn’t know it was there, you’d never find it.

One side is fenced off. It separates the park from Lost Nation Airport. We’ll be playing Frisbee, and there will be planes landing. People that aren’t familiar with the field are freaked out because there’s a plane coming in.

A lot of goose poop. There will be mud, but you’re not sure how much of it is goose.

I’ve been here 15 years. When I was in high school, I was one of those kids that stayed at home with my record player. I stayed at home and hung out with my family.

I would define Mentor as being commercial. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. I would love to see more small independent places.

The Record Denon Mentor Avenue. It’s right across the street from Best Buy. The fact they’re still open with their competition right across the street says a lot for them. It’s the coolest place to go and buy records. The people there are so nice and so helpful. They know my name when I walk in.

Is Bigfoot in Mentor? I’ve never heard that.

In certain neighborhoods, it’s very easy to get lost. Cul-de-sacs, windy roads, stop signs.

When people come here, they generally go somewhere they’ve heard of before. There are tons of place in Mentor like that.

Everything I do is out of the city, but it’s a good home base.
