Foodie-vision
International Culinary Arts and Sciences Institute instructor Stefanie Paganini and the 2007 winner of Rachel Ray’s So You Think You Can Cook contest, Jenn Thomas, have teamed up to launch Time Warner Cable culinary showDinner and Drinks. It’s a 30-minute earth-to-table show featuring simple recipes from start to finish and will run Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. and on Sunday at noon. “I’m excited at the opportunity to work with Stefanie,” Thomas says. “We have a lot of fun on the set, and it’s great to work with someone you really respect.”

Garden Gourmets
TheCleveland Botanical Gar-den’s Gourmets in the Garden is back for its fifth summer of cooking. Every Wednesday through Sept. 2, foodies can get an up-close demonstration by some of the area’s best chefs, who will share tasty ideas to try at home. This month’s schedule features chefs from Boulevard Blue, Fire Food & Drink, the Greenhouse Tavern, the Flying Fig and the Baricelli Inn. “Expect a fun time in an extremely casual setting,” says Peter Vertes, communications director at the Botanical Garden. “All of the chefs use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.” Reservations are required for the 6 p.m. event. And while you’re there, enjoy Cocktails in the Garden, also on Wednesday evenings, starting at 5 p.m. —grab a beer, wine or signature cocktail as you stroll through the flowers. There’s a new concoction every week.

Thursday Night Specials
Start your weekend early as the Downtown Cleveland Alliance offers a new Thursday-night twist to its summerSparx series. From 5 to 9 p.m., July 23 to Aug. 13, West Ninth Street will become the city’s best block party withThursday Night Live. Closed to traffic from Johnson Court to St. Clair, the street’s bars and restaurants will offer the same happy hour specials: $4 mixed drinks, $3 wine and $2 beer. Plus, check out corn-hole tournaments, live music and a free movie after sunset. Then cruise on over to East Fourth, where it’s a cookout with equally appetizing deals. On Thursdays through Sept. 10, neighborhood restaurants are packing the patios with grilled fare, outdoor bars and more drink specials — all of which pair perfectly with live music at the Sparx Concert Series. Head to the Greenhouse Tavern for “street frites,” bubble teas at Saigon or free smoothie samples at Erie Island Coffee. For an updated list of deals, visit downtownclevelandalliance.com.

Golden Grapes
What’s higher than a gold medal? Ask Ferrante Winery. It recently earned a Double Gold Award for its 2007 Signature Series Riesling at the Finger Lakes International Wine and the Ohio Wine competitions. “We’re always proud to receive top honors, but these are especially notable due to the tremendous competition in the Riesling category,” winemaker Nick Ferrante says. Other vinos of note: The 2007 Golden Bunches Dry Riesling took home Best in Show for a white wine, while the 2008 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine snagged the Best in Show for a dessert wine.
