How We Rate

Edited by Jim Vickers; reporting by Steve Gleydura, Kim Schneider, Beth Stallings, Carly Toyzan and Erick Trickey

Admit it, we as a society like lists. As Clevelanders, we're consumed with our place in the world and how others view us. It's what makes Peyton Hillis' appearance on the cover of the new Madden NFL game so sweet and why Forbes.com's stinging swipe at the city last year left us all so sour. No, we're not miserable by any means. We're not perfect either. But who are we really, and how do we match up against the nation's other largest metropolitan areas? We delved into census numbers, federal statistics and, yes, even those beloved and reviled magazine and online lists of the nation's best and worst to create this snapshot of who we are right now.
