And Another Thing
To us, she’s always been the Julia Roberts to Dennis Kucinich’s political Lyle Lovett. So, the only surprise about
The Hill’s inclusion of Elizabeth Kucinich on its list of the 50 Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill is that she ranks No. 4.
Come on, she’s top-three material, especially since the Washington, D.C.-based newspaper dubbed her “The British Goddess.” We’ll get over it, but she deserves better.
Maybe we’re having such a reaction because Elizabeth Kucinich first appeared in our January 2006 Most Interesting People issue not long after tying the knot with Dennis. She charmingly talked about becoming a vegan and her world-traveler background. She also shared with us some serious ideas about changing the world. But that was countless late-night talk-show jokes and a presidential campaign ago.
So we hesitated before delving into
The Hill’s interview with her. We wondered if her appearance on
The Daily Show and months of mingling with West Coast Dennisphiles had changed her.
And when we finally jumped in, we found her graciousness intact, especially while fielding questions about beauty, falling in love and marriage. We just knew there was a monetary-policy wonk in there waiting to break free, but she took the softball questions in stride.
“It’s flattering, but I don’t really think of it much,” she told the newspaper, when asked about the constant focus on her physical appearance. “It’s always nice to make a favorable impression.”
That, you do, Elizabeth Kucinich. That, you do.
