The St. Clair-Superior neighborhood is a blend of old and new, with a rich diversity of culture and ethnicity. Older, rehabbed homes with stately front porches share space with historic warehouses that now host studio spaces for artists and commercial use. Founded by Polish, Lithuanian, German, Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian immigrants, the community today is home to many members of Cleveland’s Asian population.

Asia Plaza is one of Cleveland’s most popular destinations for authentic Chinese food and merchandise. More than 50 acres of Lake Erie shoreline abut the neighborhood, providing fishing and boating access.

Neighborhood Gem

In Chinese culture, 2007 is the Year of the Pig, and the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood is celebrating in a unique way. Preceded by a Year of the Dog project in 2006, the community will sprout 58 fiberglass pigs designed by Viktor Schreckengost and decorated by local artists.
The project is designed to raise diversity awareness in the neighborhood, while also raising money for the St. Clair Superior Development Association’s endeavors toward community improvement and awareness.

The artistic pigs can be viewed around the neighborhood this summer, along with various family-friendly events. The pigs will be auctioned later this year.
