Catholics give each other a knowing wink at this fish fry. Many Catholic churches hold some kind of Lenten fish fry, and several are quite good, but you’ll still find parishoners of those churches at St. Mary.
Jean Dobrea, who has run this operation since it started nearly three decades ago, laughs when she hears this. Oh, yes. She sees some folks from Our Lady of Angels. And she’ll happily serve them. Most folks who attend this fish fry aren’t from the church, in fact. But they just know it is quite possibly the best in Northeast Ohio.
Place your order while walking in, find a seat, and one of the young church volunteers will be your server.
The blue pike is one of three fish options, but it’s the one you’ll order because it’s the best. Fill your fork with a mix of fish and mac and cheese — you’ll love it.
Some Fridays, the church doesn’t even advertise. Still, it’s always packed.
