And Another Thing

Kelly Petryszyn
It took a year. But after damning all the motorists who pollute, support sprawl and have complete freedom to go wherever they please without consulting a bus schedule (“A Car-Free Life,” March 2008), I finally sold my Toyota. Sure, following my car-free experiment, I first retook my spot in traffic. I once even drove to the corner store on a sunny day. But after paying my car insurance bill (again) and getting a bite on my long-lingering online classified, I decided to sell. Thanks to the CityWheels car-sharing program, my decision is feasible. And all those things I loved — connecting with my neighbors, shopping locally and supporting walkable neighborhoods — are back. Plus, I’ll save about $5,000 a year. Why did I wait so long?
