The refurbished Breuer wing of the Cleveland Museum of Art was filled with more than 400 art aficionados dining on hors d’oeuvres and cocktails as they celebrated the opening of Barcelona & Modernity: Picasso, Gaudí, Miró, Dalí, the first exhibit at the museum since its closing in January 2006 for a $250 million renovation.

With flamenco dancers and the sounds of a Latin guitar in the background, guests enjoyed tapas and other Spanish cuisine before taking an exclusive tour of the exhibition.

Robert Hughes, author and Time magazine art critic, spoke about the exhibit, which is also the first in the United States to examine the 71-year period when Barcelona transformed itself into one of Europe’s most dynamic centers of modernist art and architecture. Along with works by Picasso, Miró, Gaudí and Dalí, the exhibit also features more than 300 objects from lesser-known artists of the period.

The event also celebrated the 90th anniversaries of both law firm Baker Hostetler and the Cleveland Museum of Art, which is expected to completely reopen in 2011.
