Linger at the Lake
Karen Fuller
The Cudell/Edgewater neighborhood is a diverse neighborhood others envy for its beautiful lakefront living in historic housing admired by residents and visitors alike. It also boasts several vibrant specialty retail districts along Clifton Avenue, Detroit Road, Lorain Avenue, Madison Avenue and West 117th Street—all this and only minutes from downtown.

Edgewater Park is a beautiful lakefront space that boasts two big, beautiful Lake Erie beaches plus rolling hills and open meadows where Cleveland comes to play. All year round, the park has something to offer, whether it’s snowshoeing in the winter, flying kites on a windy spring day, cooling off in the lake in midsummer’s heat, or admiring the autumn colors on an October hike on park trails. “It’s a very active place,” says Dave Frank, assistant park manager. “There’s usually something happening every weekend from May through November—runs, walks, parties and other special events.”

The park is just more than 475 acres in size, with about 250 of those acres belonging to the beach area. Edgewater Beach actually is considered two separate beaches. The Main Beach is 900 feet of sandy shoreline, attended by lifeguards during the summer. It’s the place singles, couples and families all come together to sunbathe and swim. The Middle Beach is also about 900 feet long, but it is thought of more as a boat launch area than a swimming beach (no lifeguards).
