Fred Fitzhugh digs the nightlife. That’s why, in February, he bought a 2,000-square-foot condo at the Pinnacle, in the Historic Warehouse District. Fitzhugh, 55, says his $450,000 investment was well worth his instant access to Cleveland’s night moves.
“I’ve always enjoyed the energy of metropolitan living and I like Cleveland’s downtown dynamics,” says Fitzhugh, who owns Subway sandwich shops at Grand Arcade and Tower City, and develops the franchises in and around Cleveland.
“The excitement downtown has clearly surpassed the Friday/Saturday night bar scene, because there’s something happening all the time.”
Fittingly, Fitzhugh describes it as a dance.
Sunday Swing — “At all times of day and night, every day of the week, you see people walking up and down the street, going places and doing things. To me, this proves I moved to the right place.”
Monday Mambo — “I had an out-of-town guest on a recent Monday night and there was so much happening downtown, we couldn’t even get into Chop House or D’Vine Wine.”
Tuesday Two-Step — “You can’t step out of the Pinnacle without running into an upscale restaurant or bar, so during the week I dine out at least three times.”
Wednesday Waltz — “My girlfriend and I like going from place to place … cocktails at Waterstreet Grill and Johnny’s Downtown, then dinner at Blue Point Grille, Mallorca or Brasa.”
Thursday Tango — “This is our ‘play night’ when we go down to Playhouse Square to see a Broadway show.”
Friday Fox Trot/Saturday Salsa — “On a weekend, we like to run over to Pickwick & Frolic. But Cleveland is the center for entertainment, dining, even people-watching, and we enjoy all the options we have down here. It’s all so vibrant.”
