Going out of town for the weekend can be a great stress reliever. But for dog owners, there’s always a little bit of anxiety. You don’t want to regularly dump your pet on family and friends, because they’ll eventually stop taking your phone calls. You could board your dog at a kennel, but that option tends to go one of two ways: a place where your pet will come back with fleas or one that’ll charge for belly rubs. The solution? Try the Mutt Hutt: It’s not no-frills, it’s all the right frills. This doggie day care and boarding house has trained “pack leaders” who work with the dogs all day and stay with them at night. There are no cages. But there’s nothing ridiculous like private rooms with televisions, either. Your pooch will leave exhausted and better behaved.2603 Scranton Road, Cleveland; (216) 621-6888; themutthutt.com

I had just adopted a new dog and had her for 5 months before we went on vacation. I looked at a few places to board her, a 6 month old lab with lots of energy, and all of the places had cages that the dogs stayed in for 23 of the 24 hours in a day. The dogs got two 15 minutes run breaks in a little bit larger cage and that is where they were suppose to play. Not for me and not for my dog. I found the Mutt Hutt and loved it. Olive Oyl was running free in the large enclosed back yard and also inside in a large inside area with couches and chairs for the dogs comfort, and we all need know our dogs need comfort. The dogs can also sleep in the bed or beside the bed with the overnight person that stays with them. When I picked her up after vacation, she was tired from playing with all the other dogs. I take her there once a week to run her energy off and when she gets in my car after 8 hours at the Mutt Hutt she falls asleep before we get home, and we only live 10 minutes from there. The rest of the night she is out. Take your dogs there for a trial and I bet you will be going there more often. Great and loving staff. I trust my dog to them completely.
