Lights, Camera, Cleveland

The 29th Cleveland International Film Festival kicks off March 10 at Tower City Cinemas and runs through March 20. Thanks to an Arts and Culture as Economic Development Grant award, this year's festival will expand its programming to a fifth theater, allowing five more films to be shown each day. A new documentary competition sponsored by Nesnadny + Schwartz and a 10-day silent auction sponsored by Pinxav are new additions this year. More than 400 people attended the opening reception of Great Lakes Publishing Co.'s Beyond the Printed Page Volume 2 at ArtMetro Gallery Jan. 21. More than 40 artists — all of whom work in a staff or free-lance capacity for a Great Lakes Publishing Co. publication — exhibited works ranging from traditional photography to modern sculpture. Sushi Rock was a sponsor of the event and provided food for the evening.

The March of Dimes and Cleveland's culinary community presented an evening of elegance and amazing food at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Nov. 22. The event raised more than $98,500 for the March of Dimes. Cleveland Magazine was a sponsor of the event.

Celebrity Soup

Local restaurateurs and a host of celebrity servers will once again join forces for this year's Celebrity Soup event. Last year's array of signature soups were dished out by a lineup of servers that included Mayor Jane Campbell, WKYC-TV3 meteorologist Hollie Strano and Olympic figure skater Tonia Kwiatkowski. All proceeds from the event will benefit Harvest for Hunger, a program of the Cleveland Foodbank. Call (216) 738-2132 for more information or visit

Epicurean Adventure

Soak in the exotic flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean March 19 at 6:30 p.m. as The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland kicks off its 2005 Epicurean Event Series with "New World Cuisine & New World Wines." Master Sommelier Matthew Citriglia will select and present wines that are perfectly paired with Caribbean and Latin American flavors.
