Take it easy while taking advantage of our metro parks and national park. Here are three events perfect for leisure time.
Working Dog Weekend
June 11-12
Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland, 440-256-2122, lakemetroparks.com
Free-$6
The phrase "working like a dog" takes real meaning during Working Dog Weekend, when canine sports and doggie demonstrations are the center of attention. Come prepared to see dock jumping (the fastest growing sport), agility, police K9 units, horse and hound relays, and many other performances. But make sure to leave your four-legged superstar at home.
Cleveland Metroparks Brookstock
July 23
Brookside Valley Event Site, Brookside Reservation, Cleveland, 216-206-1000, clemetparks.com
Free
Live music in the woods might be the best summer combination yet. Add shopping, kite flying, boomerangs and food, and you've got Brookstock. This year will also have a tie-dye station, vendors from local sustainable businesses, and arts and crafts. Performers include Workman's Circle Klezmer Ensemble, DC-3, JiMiller Band and Blue Lunch.
Natural History Museum Bike Ride and Campout
Aug. 20-21
Canal Visitor Center, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, 7104 Ohio & Erie Canal, Valley View,
cmnh.org
$60 members, $75 nonmembers
Even the Natural History Museum likes to get outside during the summer. It's hosting a staff-guided nine-mile bike ride to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park campsite. Tents, cooking supplies and meals will be provided, and personal gear will meet you in a van. Wake up the next morning and do the same thing in reverse.
