Great Lakes Brewing Co. won several top honors at the 2005 World Beer Championships, conducted by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago. The brewery’s Burning River Pale Ale, Christmas Ale and Conway’s Irish Ale each scored highest in their individual categories, earning a gold medal and an “exceptional” rating. For a chance to sample some of Great Lakes’ brews, consider attending either a monthly “Brewmaster’s Dinner,” held the second Tuesday of each month with five paired courses, or taking a crash course in “Beer School,” held every other Wednesday. All events at the Ohio City campus include a brewery tour. For more information or to register, call (216) 771-4404.
