What else can be said about Moreland Hills? The spacious suburb of more than 3,000 has claimed the No. 2 spot on our list for the second year in a row. The prestigious community offers plenty of privacy with homes on wooded lots (the village requires 2-acre minimum lots to preserve nature). And as the safest suburb in our coverage area, Moreland Hills isn’t standing pat either. In the past three years, the police department added a new practice firing range, athletic training facility and training room for the 13 full-time officers. Being a part of the Orange School district, which ranked No. 3 again this year, provides another plus. The village has added more than 100 acres of green space to the astonishing amount of parkland already taken up by the Cleveland Metroparks’ South Chagrin Reservation. Finding a home for sale, though, can be a hassle, with only 53 homes sold in 2006. In fact, there has been a slight decrease in median home sale value over the last five years. Despite that, Moreland Hills remains a hot spot for those looking for an escape from city life.
