Shape Your Future

The University of Toldeo

Recognized as an institution of excellence for more than 150 years, The University of Toledo expanded upon this reputation by merging with the Medical University of Ohio in July 2006.

With a spectrum of colleges, departments and professional programs matched only by a handful of public universities nationwide, The University of Toledo has more than 20,000 students, 7,000 employees and 100,000 alumni. It also has the third-largest public university operating-budget in the state. Its seven campuses throughout the Toledo area include the Health Science Campus, home of the University Medical Center, and the Center for the Visual Arts, which has an on-site relationship with the world-renowned Toledo Museum of Art.

The University Medical Center is one of 15 major teaching hospitals named on Solucient’s list of “Top 100 Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders.” It is the only academic teaching hospital in the Toledo region. The hospital is a Level 1 trauma center, offering innovative treatments for strokes and cancer found nowhere else in the state. University Medical Center physicians also are faculty members who educate the next generation of health-care professionals. A record 97 percent of College of Medicine senior graduates secured first-year residency positions during the initial National Residency Matching Program.

The College of Law at The University of Toledo is equally impressive, having been included in the top 100 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

Research plays a major role at The University of Toledo. Undergraduate, graduate and faculty-led research opportunities resulted in 125 patents and nearly $60 million in funding and grants.

University researchers are working to improve the human condition through inquiry into issues at the forefront of national attention. From diabetes to Alzheimer’s disease, from performance management to bio-fuels, UT researchers are making breakthroughs in the laboratory that are being translated into results in the real world.

Major gifts contribute to the university’s growth and success, including $15 million from the Herb family for the Judith Herb College of Education and $5 million from the Sullivan family for the renovation of the Savage Hall athletic complex.

The university has the largest distance-learning program in Ohio and one of the largest in the nation. It offers more than 150 academic programs — everything from arts to medicine, pharmacy to law, and engineering to education.

UT also has hands-on learning opportunities. Its College of Engineering is one of only 10 schools in the country with mandatory co-op programs. Plus, students have the flexibility to select from day, evening, weekend and online courses, and they can earn their degrees on a full- or part-time basis.

UT also partners with numerous businesses and community agencies. Area school systems coordinate with the Judith Herb College of Education staff to establish enrichment programs. Students in the College of Pharmacy offer affordable services to the under- and uninsured.

Companies seek the expertise of College of Business Administration faculty, who provide insights into gaining the competitive edge in a global marketplace.
