Fish Fries - Mapleside Restaurant

Kim Schneider
During Lent, we wake up on Fridays with an excitement that lasts all day, anticipating the evening meal.

Mapleside Restaurant understands the feeling and is willing to feed us until it subsides. Using its specialty — apples — Mapleside makes its all-you-can-eat fish fry an experience. Sides of Waldorf salad, scalloped apples, chunky applesauce and apple country stuffing — the list of sweet sustenance goes on and on.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of potatoes to choose from —roasted red skin potatoes, loaded baked potatoes, mashed potatoes. Here’s the tough part: Narrowing the list down to two sides might be hard. Thank God we have seven Fridays in Lent.

First things first, though. Load up on sticky buns and hot-spiced cider, specialties of the family-owned restaurant. Then look out the window to take in the views of the apple orchards and red-tinged sunsets while keeping warm by the crackling fireplace. Breathe in and repeat.

And before you know it, your first plate of fish — mild, yet flavorful pollack — will arrive. Ah, we love Fridays. 294 Pearl Road, Brunswick, (330) 225-5576; Fridays through March, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; $10.95
