More history, please
I was very pleased with the articles in the 35th anniversary issue of your publication (December 2007). However, I would have enjoyed more articles on the history of Cleveland itself. Otherwise, it was a job well done.

Quote remarks
Congratulations on your 35 years. Initially, I was touched to see the picture featuring my father during the ’80s (“Kitchen Confidential,” December 2007). I remember July 1985 very well. It was the first of 21 years working with my father. Yet Sanford Herskovitz’s accompanying comment, “In a word, he is dead,” should not distill the life of a man who genuinely made himself available to Cleveland’s world of wine and food. My father, Gene Parrino, spent his adult life in the wine business and, yes, he was a big part of the food and fine-dining scene in Cleveland. He had great passion for how he made his living. He made himself available to clients — not as a simple peddler, but as a friend and adviser. Ultimately, cancer took him from us and from the greater scope of friends who loved him and an industry he helped create. My father was humble, kind and generous to all he met. He is worthy of recognition in the community he loved. Next time, please think before you print.

Editor’s Note:
We received several other letters in reference to the direct quote from Sanford Herskovitz. If we had realized then the hard feelings his words would create, we would have asked him for a different comment.

Snowbirds unite!
I really enjoyed “The Art of Successful Snowbirding” article (November 2007). We own a home in Lighthouse Point in southeast Florida, where we spend the winters. We would love to join one or two of the Cleveland Clubs in the Palm Beach/ Fort Lauderdale area. Could you please provide contact information for the Palm Beach County Cleveland Club or any others that might be in the area? Thanks very much.
