News Bites

Lunch Break

If you think Zack Bruell and cafeteria fare don't mix, try again. When the chef and restaurateur opens Kafeteria — as early as December — in the long-empty third floor of 200 Public Square, Bruell will reimagine grab-and-go cuisine as only he can. Picture an international noodle station with cooked-to-order pastas, a braised meats and meals bar, and made-from-scratch, freshly squeezed juices. "This won't be your standard cafeteria food," says Bruell, who opened the fast-casual Dynomite Burgers in August. "Imagine a cafeteria where you can get my food. That's what this will be."

Course Notes

Start sketching your dining plans for Cleveland Independents' eighth annual Cleveland Restaurant Week Nov. 4-16. For $33, foodies can get a three-course meal at a variety of locally owned restaurants such as Flying Fig, Grovewood Tavern and One Red Door. "I like the fact that everyone around town has something to offer, and it's always different," says Spice Kitchen & Bar's chef and owner Ben Bebenroth.

Fresh Idea

East Side shoppers no longer have to drive to Little Italy to get a fresh-baked Corbo's Bakery fix. The beloved bakery recently opened a full-service outpost inside Marc's Mayfield Heights store, much like the operation it unveiled at the discount chain's Brecksville location in February. Both stock a selection of goodies such as cookies and coconut bars. Cannolis are even filled while you wait. "I won't prefill cannoli," says bakery president Selena Corbo.

Expansion Plan

Things are about to get a little sweeter in Ohio City. Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt, the Cleveland Heights-based organic frozen yogurt shop, is set to open a second location in the bustling neighborhood this month. "We're very much into the idea of urban renewal of the city, and it's a great place for entertainment," says co-owner Adrian Bota. The new spot will be located between Crop Bistro & Bar and Bonbon Pastry & Cafe.
