And Another Thing

When Solon was named Northeast Ohio’s No. 1 suburb in our June issue (“Rating the Suburbs”), we placed a photo of the city’s downtown gazebo on page 229 and wrote: “It’s evident this is a welcoming city proud of its heritage and future. … The Solon Gazebo, built in 1910, stands proudly downtown.” Then a one-line e-mail from a reader informed us, “They’re tearing it down soon.” But the landmark may be given a stay of execution. Though a redesign of the city’s Memorial Park is in the works, Solon assistant director of public works David Hromco says, “We have not made a decision as to what will become of the gazebo. ... Our chief building official did state that there are some issues with the existing structure, and we are currently looking to see whether there are issues that can be worked out.” Next time, we’re sending out a building inspector.
