And Another Thing

Mike White, horse whisperer? He's largely flown under the radar since leaving office in January 2002, but the former Cleveland mayor's post-political life was recently splashed across A-1 of Tuscarawas County's daily newspaper, The Times-Reporterú All that business about White and his wife, JoAnn, retiring to Newcomerstown, Ohio, to raise alpacas is true. But they also care for abused and unwanted horses by way of the Seven Pines Foundation, a nonprofit organization the couple founded in December 2002. In fact, board of elections records show White dumped a total of $271,000 in leftover campaign cash into the venture during 2002 and 2003. Pictured in the newspaper wearing a Carhart work coat, blue jeans and boots, White didn't have much to say about his previous job, except that he's pretty sure that part of his life is over, telling the T-R, "I haven't woke up in the middle of the night, in a cold sweat, screaming, 'Vote for me.'
