Ashley Herzog
Columnist and author | 24

Why she’s interesting … Herzog created a stir throughout the Ohio University campus and the Web with her good-girl facade and columns critical of liberal politics. She penned her first book, Feminism vs. Women, at age 22 and continues to write regularly for conservative stronghold Townhall.com.

About the book … Herzog insists her book isn’t anti-feminist. “Feminism as a movement has become very exclusionary. They only promote certain women with a specific set of beliefs. When someone like Sarah Palin comes along, they jump right in with everyone attacking her in a very sexist way. They don’t really tolerate diversity.”

Double take … Herzog is often compared to sharp-tongued, right-winger Ann Coulter but says, “I’m definitely not as extreme as her.”

But when choosing someone to debate … “I’m trying to think of who pisses me off the most — probably Nancy Pelosi.”

Who did she vote for in 2008? … “Neither. I didn’t vote. I really didn’t feel motivated to. I had worked on the Bush campaign in 2004, and I was dedicated to that. I wasn’t happy with John McCain, and I just … wasn’t impressed with either of them.”

The lesser of all evils … Hillary. “I think she would have been a better president than Obama or McCain. I think she’s more pragmatic than either of them.”

Political prediction … “I’m willing to put money on the idea that we will have a woman either running again as vice president or as president in 2012.”

Five years from now … Herzog hopes to write more books and start her own political Web site. “I don’t know if I’ll ever work in an office or have a 9-to-5 job.”
