Quotable, R.I.P.

"We've got better vision. We've got better ideas. We've got real plans. We've got a better sense of what's happening to America. And we've got better hair. I'll tell you that goes a long way."

— Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on the edge he and John Edwards have over Bush/ Cheney during an appearance at Strawbridge Plaza July 6. Cleveland was the first stop the pair made after Kerry announced that the North Carolina senator and former rival for the nomination would be his running mate.

Now where are we going to rent "Robo Vampire"? As July wound to an end, weeknight shoppers perused the shelves of Lakewood's B-Ware Video on Madison Avenue, looking for souvenirs. The quirky video store, which has been the West Side's B-movie rental capital for the past eight years, called it quits July 10 and put its wonderfully bad collection of VHS and DVD flicks up for sale. During our visit, half a dozen shoppers wandered the shelves marked with category titles such as "Bigfoot Yeti" and "Cannibalism," hunting for their beloved guilty viewing pleasures and out-of-print favorites. The $7 price tag had them loading up, and with good reason. It's not like you can just cruise over to Blockbuster and pick up "The Prehistoric Women" any time you feel like giving it a look.
