While in Afghanistan this year, retired Air Force officer Christian Dollwet interviewed wounded war veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder like him. The stories he gathered will be translated into a dance performed by members of Verb Ballets along with pieces created by company dancers.
After seeing Israeli choreographer Noa Zuk perform a work utilizing a self-aware, body-testing modern dance style known as Gaga on YouTube, GroundWorks artistic director David Shimotakahara was smitten. He invited Zuk to Cleveland to teach the local dance company a Gaga-inspired piece, one that will be performed along with new compositions by Shimotakahara and Inamorata by New York choreographer Kate Weare.
The company of modern dance legend Paul Taylor brings an original dance inspired by bugs to Cleveland. Wearing green and black bodysuits strapped with wings and antenna, company members will perform Gossamer Gallants, a piece that looks at Taylor's fascination with insects and their tendency for female dominance, along with two other works by Taylor, Mercuric Tidings and Esplanade.
