Most Eligible Singles: Michael Medcalf

Michael Medcalf, 42
Professional dancer, choreographer and instructor

How he caught our eye: A Cleveland School of the Arts grad, Medcalf has received many honors for his accomplishments in the dance world. He's also laid-back and likes to trade his dancing shoes for a chef's hat.

The perfect date: It would probably involve going to dinner, lots of wine, great food, and then possibly going to have coffee somewhere. But doing a physical activity would be great too. ... I think going to a movie on the first date is not a good thing because you're sitting in the movie and not communicating or chatting.

Something most people don't know about me: I'm a homebody, and I love to cook. I like the comfort of my own home. I also don't like big crowds. I don't like going to clubs or going to concerts. ... I enjoy more intimate settings and surroundings.

My passion: Dance and learning. I love acquiring new knowledge. I started training in dance at the age of 14 at the Cleveland School of the Arts. Once I tried it, I was hooked. I was really fortunate that I found my passion at a young age.

Biggest turn-on: Ambition, drive, independence

Biggest turnoff: The opposite—lack of drive and complacency

I own too many: I think for a single male I own too many cups and glasses. There's no way I could have a party where all of these glasses would be in use, let alone using them myself on a day-to-day basis. Plus, I hate, despise with a passion, washing dishes.

My favorite ...
... place in Cleveland:
Other than home, I don't go out much, so I guess it might be the grocery store because I love to cook.
... book:
Probably Resonate with Stillness by Swami Muktananda and Swami Chidvilasananda It's a book of daily contemplations. ... Each one gives me food for thought for the day, week or whatever and gets me thinking on a positive note.
... musician/band: Well, "Butterflies" by Michael Jackson is my favorite song. As far as favorite musician goes, Chaka Khan keeps coming to mind. But in general, I'm a big 80's house music fan.
... sports team:
I'm not a big sports fan.
... TV show: Glee . Without a doubt.
... vacation destination
: Europe
... dessert:
I recently discovered Greek yogurt, and I'm kind of really loving that right now. And sweet potato pie.
... blog: I'm not a big blog reader—I'm a Facebook fanatic, though.

My usual hangout: Home or the studio or at the theater

In high school I was ... Senior class president
And now I'm ...
going back to school to get my master's in choreography/dance

My best feature: I think my personality. I'm outgoing.

My bad habit: Smoking

My first kiss: I don't remember it! Whoever it was I hope they aren't mad at me.

My guilty pleasure: Yes, several, but they aren't for print. I have to leave something for the imagination!

How my ex would describe me: I think they would have fond memories of tons of laughter, I still have cordial relationships with all of my exes except for one. I think they would say I was ambitious, a workaholic, romantic, passionate and compassionate.

Going out or staying in: Stay in

Early, late or right on time: Right on time

Dogs or cats: I am a dog person. I live with my beautiful dog, Tasha, who is a rescue dog and a German shepherd mix.

Dancing ... yes or no?: Yes, as a profession I do modern, contemporary and ballet. For fun, wwell, it's been years. I don't do hip-hop.

Twitter ... yes or no?: A who? Oh, yea, but I don't use it. I think you can do the same thing on Facebook.

My longest relationship: Eight years

Beer, wine or martinis: Beer. I like Great Lakes Dortmunder. If I'm having cash flow issues, Miller HighLife. As for wine, I like Merlot.

Roses or chocolates: Roses. Not a big chocolate fan.

My No. 1 dating rule: Having an opinion. Meaning, I don't like to make all the decisions. At least have an opinion on what you'd like to do, where you'd like to go — just have an opinion.

My deal-breaker: It's been so long that I don't even know what these terms mean. I think a person that would be noncommunicative meaning a person who can't hold a decent conversation.

I hate when a date ... pays more attention to their Blackberry than me.

But I love when a date I love when a date is a dog-lover.

Worst pickup line: "You look familiar; what's your name?" It's like, no I don't. You don't know me from a can of paint, dude.

If I could date anyone: Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. At the same time.

On a first date I never ...  talk about exes.

Best place to meet someone : I really don't know! I would say through mutual friends even though that's not really a place. Online isn't bad either.

Most unusual place I've met someone: In a parking lot.

My take on Cleveland's single scene: I don't even feel like I'm really in it. I'm not sure what or how people are doing it, in particular how they meet or clubbing. I think it's a challenge; however, the sitcom Hot in Cleveland doesn't seem to think so.
