Mary Zitiello believes in the power of pampering our beloved four-legged friends. “A dog should get a treat just like when kids go to the doctor’s office. They’re like our kids,” says Zitiello, the owner of Oliver & Henry’s in Westlake.
The pet boutique, which opened in 2012 and is named for Zitiello’s Cavalier King Charles spaniels, has everything a pet owner needs: food, toys, grooming and more. But the real draw is the freshly made dog treats crafted by three bakers.
Paw-some Flavors: Best-sellers include the Cape Cod cranberry bagels that were a seasonal flavor, but are now available year-round. In addition, dogs go crazy for bacon, egg and cheese biscuits, peanut butter birthday bones dipped in yogurt and pretzel treats drizzled with cream of wheat powder.
Pet-Friendly: Zitiello uses peanut butter from Hillson Nut Company in Cleveland in certain items, like the OH Signature Bones. “They specifically granulate the peanuts with no salt and no sugar because that’s not good for dogs. If you try to taste that peanut butter, it’s very bland,” explains Zitiello. “But adding it into our bakery products, the dogs love it. It’s still peanut butter to them.”
New Digs: A new 2,000-square-foot Crocker Park location is slated to open in August and will feature more retail space. In addition, a swanky new Paw Bar will reinvent how Zitiello sells bakery items. Five kinds of biscuits will be sold in bulk, along with a birthday section and other decorative treats, such as mini cupcakes, that will be sold individually.
