Monique Rich was a passionate bartender before she was hit and nearly killed by a drunk driver in 1991. Twenty-five years later, she still loves mixing drinks but without the alcohol. “I’m OK with the fun, but it’s more serious,” she says. “It’s about saving lives.” Mocktailz, her collection of seven flavors such as Amaretto and Red Sangria, bring the experience of enjoying a cocktail without the potential of a liability. Rich makes her faux cocktails ($5 each) by hand in the Cleveland Culinary Launch and Kitchen and uses spirit flavorings that taste and smell like the real thing. The brandy berry, a gentlemen’s favorite, warms your throat with a dose of sweet fruits, while the original Mock-A-Rita packs more tequila flavor than lime. “If you have an open mind when you’re tasting it, it will take you to another level,” says Rich. “It’s about staying safe and having that experience.” 216-857-9007, mocktailz.com
