One couple had the ultimate Dyngus Day wedding, tying the knot in the middle of the celebration which takes over Cleveland's Gordon Square neighborhood every year on the Monday after Easter.
Becki Locke and James Sheehe were married at the festival’s street stage. Bridesmaids consisted of a group of women honored with the title of “Miss Dyngus” at past festivals. They carried early spring bouquets of pussy willows, as did the bride.
“May your life always be filled with polka music, good friends, full plates of pierogi and Dyngus Days forever,” said festival founder Justin Gorski, aka DJ Kishka, in a speech following the ceremony.
As for their first dance, Locke and Sheehe danced to polka, in true Dyngus Day fashion. They swayed to “My Melody of Love,” a classic tune written by Bobby Vinton, in front of thousands of cheering Clevelanders.
