Reminiscent of a scene from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, the pewter “The Wedding Couple” ornament by Leandra Drumm — of Akron's Don Drumm Studios —seemed almost predestined to become a gift for Swift and Travis Kelce.

“The customer thought that it represented them, and thought that it looked like Taylor and Travis on the Eras Tour, the London leg, which now I completely see,” Jessica Shumski, the studios’ pewter manager. “Travis showed up in a top hat and a tuxedo and picked her up and carried her."

"And my ornament is of a groom in a tuxedo and top hat, carrying the bride over the threshold," Leandra adds.

When the celebrity couple got married on July 3, wedding guest Ally Charara shared on social media that she gifted them the ornament.

Ever since, the Akron studio has seen an influx of attention around its ornaments, along a spike in sales around “The Wedding Couple” in particular.

“It’s interesting to see how people are connecting to it,” Leandra says. “Whether they're choosing it as a gift for a wedding, or whether they're choosing it as a symbolic representation of their wedding, something they want to wear, something they want to hang on their Christmas tree — so it's kind of fun to hear how different people view that piece, and what connects them either to the piece or to Taylor and Travis.”

Leandra says the ornament was one of her early pewter projects, first designed decades ago. “The Wedding Couple” is a bit more one-dimensional than what her style has progressed to today.

First working in etched glassware, the artist picked up metalworking at the suggestion of her father, Don Drumm. Don and his wife and Leandra’s mother, the late Lisa Drumm, started Don Drumm Studios in Akron 55 years ago. Don, now 91, still comes to the studios at 437 Crouse St. to work on metal sculpture projects every day, Leandra says. The studios fill two buildings and represent more than 500 artists. Leandra has inherited the space, where she also runs a studio as a resident artist.

Alongside photos of herself getting ready for the big wedding, Charara shared a photo of the Leandra Drumm-designed ornament in an Instagram post, tagging Don Drumm Studios, Kelce and Swift in the image. Leandra says that two other pieces of artwork were purchased to complete the gift: a casserole dish and a set of musical instrument-shaped measuring spoons.

Shumski considers herself a Swiftie, and had the opportunity to work with the customer in preparing the gift.

“I got to wrap Taylor’s gift,” Shumski says excitedly. “I touched something she’s gonna touch.”

Ever since the wedding, sales of the ornament have risen — approaching new heights (pun intended) previously experienced with the studios' popular eclipse-themed releases in 2024.

“We just thought that was really thoughtful, because this person could have bought something from anywhere,” Leandra Drumm says. “It felt really connective that it came from a small local business and it's handcrafted, and that had meaning to the customer and it has meaning to us.”
