The menu matches the decor here, managing to tread somewhere between a diner and foodie must-stop. While items such as a patty melt ($11.50) or BLT ($9) scream old-school like Fast Eddie’s striped booth benches, the kung pao lettuce wraps ($8) have a refined flare that echoes the spot’s high ceilings and exposed ductwork. But one dish mixes both. The chicken and bacon mac ‘n’ cheese’s ($12) creaminess reminds us of home cooking, while the addition of crunchy, slightly spicy scallions and the tang of cheddar ale sauce elevates the pieces of savory chicken and bits of smoky bacon. Also Try: The garlic Parmesan wings ($5.75 for five) are rich with the taste of roasted garlic — and they’re just 50 cents each on Monday nights. The Brussels sprout salad ($9.50) proves that dates and Brussels sprouts do their best work together: The dates calm the bitterness of the sprouts into a sweet, chewy balance. 7729 W.
