Nestled into a 1920s former auto repair garage in the bustling Cedar-Lee neighborhood, CLE Urban Winery is a far cry from the usual pastoral winery experience.

“It has more of a taproom feel than a traditional farm winery feel,” says owner Destiny Burns.

Spearheaded by winemaker Dave Mazzone, a wine production area is tucked behind glass that’s visible from the winery’s chic, industrial 3,000-square-foot tasting room so guests can sip while watching the wine being made.

Fermented using juice imported from West Coast-grown grapes, the wine menu includes 15 Cleveland-themed dry and sweet reds and whites, and even a popular wine slushie.

There’s no kitchen, but guests are welcome to bring in food to go with their Rust Belt rose or Mighty Cuyahoga merlot.

“We’re all about creating a community space for people to come and gather,” says Burns. “It’s more like a community center that makes wine.” 2180B Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, 216-417-8313, cleurbanwinery.com

Try This: CLE Urban Winery’s most popular offering, Buckeye blackberry merlot ($14.99), is a slightly sweet red that pairs perfectly with buckeye candies or peanut butter cups.
