For Mary Jo Ferrante, creating award-winning wines is a family affair. More than 80 years after her grandparents started Ferrante Winery in 1937, Mary Jo now owns and manages the sprawling vineyard located in Geneva.

“We have a broad range of wines for different palates ranging from the specialty ice wine and fruit wines to the drier chardonnays and reds,” she says.

The winery maintains a relaxed Tuscan style, complete with a casual atmosphere and red brick buildings. Not to mention a large outdoor patio that has live music on the weekends. The buck doesn’t stop at wine either, as Ferrante boasts a full-service Italian restaurant that seats 200 people and serves mouthwatering meals.

“Our steamed mussels are probably our most popular appetizer,” Ferrante says. “Our lasagna is homemade. That’s a specialty, along with our veal dishes.”

With its established vineyards and celebrated wines, Ferrante Winery is proud of its place on the Ohio wine trail.

“People should know there’s a little Napa Valley right in their own backyard,” Ferrante says. 5585 state Route 307, Geneva, 440-466-8466, ferrantewinery.com

Try This: The perfect wine to sip during a warm night on the patio, let the summer sangria ($9.49) become your new summer drink.
