Eclectic Avenue

For years, Robin VanLear has enjoyed a breathtaking view of Parade the Circle from a perch atop a pair of stilts. "It's a very moving experience," says VanLear, who founded and directs the Cleveland Museum of Art event. Celebrating its 25th anniversary June 14, this rite of summer, replete with giant papier-mache masks and colorful costumes, has become a showcase for local, national and international artists displaying their work alongside the creations of area community groups. After starting with just 125 people in 1990, this year's parade is expected to draw more than 1,200 participants representing about 100 groups.
