Edwins expands with an oyster bar.

Food & Drink | By Jaden Stambolia

After Brandon Chrostowski made the shocking move of relocating Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute from Shaker Square to Cleveland Heights last year, the institute is looking to expand the restaurant with a new teaching kitchen and an oyster bar.

New Classroom: Edwins has renovated the former Zoss Bakery, a 1,800-square-foot space, into a classroom and teaching kitchen. This move is to support the growth of its nationally recognized culinary training program.

  • The program's newest class has over 70 students, and with this addition, the class size can expand.

  • 650 students have graduated from Edwins.

The Coasts: The new oyster bar concept will be housed in CL Barber Salon Family Hair on Cedar Road. Once the salon moves, Edwins plans to convert the space into a relaxed spot for 24 guests to eat oysters and enjoy drinks.

  • The restaurant menu will feature oysters from the West and East Coasts.

  • The space will also serve as a seafood classroom.

Chrostowski, Founder and CEO of Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute: “This expansion allows us to continue advancing excellence in culinary education while embracing our new community in Cleveland Heights."

Talk of the Town

The Cleveland Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has appointed Christopher Larson as its next chief executive officer of Catholic Charities. Larson's first day will be on June 1. Larson previously served as executive director of City Year Cleveland.

A Valley Forge High School student died Monday afternoon after shooting themselves in the school's cafeteria area. Parma Police say that no other students were injured.

Gray Media Group, which owns Cleveland TV stations WOIO, WUAB, and WTCL, plans to move them to Independence before the end of next year. Currently, the TV stations are located in Reserve Square in Downtown Cleveland.

Ohio lawmakers are making a bipartisan push to change the statute of limitations regarding sex offenses. Right now, Ohio only allows a year for victims to take civil action. However, if Ohio Senate Bill 421 passes, it would extend the time victims have to take action from one year to five years.

Grammy-winning Snarky Puppy formed in 2004, but it seems like the band has always lurked in the background of this century’s dynamic jazz fusion scene. From the Editor

Tomorrow's NFL Draft will be an exciting time for Cleveland. The Browns currently have two first-round picks, No. 6 and No. 24. The Browns could use these picks to bolster the defense or give much-needed upgrades to the offense.

But my eyes are on where Cleveland native Arvell Reese goes. I have seen mock drafts with Reese going as high as the second overall pick to the New York Jets or as low as No. 6 to the Cleveland.

I would love to see him in the Green and White as a Jets fan. But it would be an amazing story to see the Glenville graduate stay home in Northeast Ohio.
