A great dish transcends time. You'll crave it weeks, months and even years later, and you'll want to eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Flying Fig executive chef and owner Karen Small couldn't shake shakshuka from her mind after having the Middle Eastern dish at a Portland restaurant several years ago. "It was such a soothing, great meal that could be eaten at really any time of the day," she says. So she set out to create her own version of baked eggs nestled in a spicy tomato sauce ($11). Full of bold and aromatic flavors such as smoked paprika, cumin, coriander and garlic, the comforting bowl combines sauteed onions, and hot and sweet peppers, kale, yogurt and feta with farm-fresh eggs. Add spicy lamb sausage for $4, and you've got one happy meal. "I like to put things on my menu that really are a reflection of my travels and that I really enjoy," says Small.Wed.-Sun. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 2523 Market Ave., Cleveland, 216-241-4243, theflyingfig.com
