Discover the hidden gems of the city when the 17th annual Sparx City Hop welcomes residents downtown and into Cleveland’s surrounding neighborhoods Aug. 17. Shedding light on more than 80 visual arts venues, the arts and culture extravaganza offers free trolley rides to destinations throughout the city alongside live music, performances and arts and craft moments. “It is an opportunity to showcase art and it’s great for people who are interested in the art scene,” says Jonathan Stone, Downtown Cleveland Alliance’s marketing and communications manager. Here’s three destinations to discover this year.

Cleveland Blacksmithing
Watch blacksmiths bend, cut and hammer iron into sculptures and purchase trinkets of your own. “I think it will be really cool for all those people who watch Game of Thrones [to] see how that stuff is made in real life,” says Stone. 4009 Fulton Court, 216-532-5351, clevelandblack smithing.com

Superior Sound Studios
Every half-hour, guests can watch live recording sessions by local artists such as Bijou the Dog and Kate Hart while touring the fully equipped video and editing suite. “This is just another one of Cleveland’s hidden gems,” says Stone. 2230 Superior Ave., 216-577-4223, superiorsoundcle.com

Worthington Yards Project
Helmed by director Liz Maugans, this cluster of four historic warehouse buildings houses more than 30 local artists, film screenings and performances. “It’s an opportunity for people to come face-to-face with art,” Stone says. 725 Johnson Court, 216-867-9801,yardsproject.com
