Paul Rose

Dean and Professor of Law, Case Western Reserve University School of Law

Education: Juris doctor, UCLA School of Law; bachelor’s degree, Brigham Young University

What Success Looks Like to Me: Success to me is our students and faculty having the best possible opportunities for their own careers. I want to help people reach goals they once thought were out of reach, and I want to strengthen an institution that will continue to create opportunities long after I step away from being dean.

What I Look for in a Leader: Humility, integrity and the ability to bring people together around a shared mission

What Motivates Me Right Now: Building momentum by improving outcomes for students, expanding opportunities and creating an institution that becomes stronger and more influential for the next generation

My Leadership Style: Student centered, collaborative and data informed. I try to set a clear vision, empower talented people and focus relentlessly on outcomes without losing sight of culture and community.

An Important Lesson I Learned: One of my mentors taught me to always assume good intentions and to not burn bridges. I also believe that you should take people as you find them and not as you wish they were.
