Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips in Lakewood Opens This Week

If all goes as planned, Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips will open its Lakewood location on Wednesday, August 26, according to owner George Simon. This latest addition has taken over the former Joe’s Deli spot at the corner of West 117th and Madison on Cleveland’s west side.

Within the span of three and a half years, Simon and a team of investors purchased the last surviving Cuyahoga Falls restaurant, revived the Garfield Heights location, and opened a new spot in Cleveland Heights, coincidentally in the very address that had housed an Arthur Treacher’s from the 1970s to 1990s.

Thanks to a unique relationship between prior longtime local owner Ben Vittoria, these last few Arthur Treacher’s locations adhere to the original recipes, seasonings and specifications. Diners can expect the same soul-satisfying items of their youth, such as crispy pie-shaped fish fillets, breaded shrimp, fried clams and fried chicken strips — all joined by fragrant hush puppies and thick, ridged “chips” just waiting to be doused in malt vinegar.

This latest location for the iconic fish and chips restaurant will have a few tables but will mostly be focused on carry-out, says Simon, who purchased the building earlier this year.

For fans of the iconic seafood chain hoping to land a location in their neck of the woods, Simon says sit tight.

"After we get this open we’ll be looking for our next location,” he says.
