California-Based Kinomatic is Cleveland Dreaming

In its first expansion outside of California, health-tech firm Kinomatic leased office space in Downtown Cleveland’s Warehouse District and has plans for growing and leasing a lot more space here.

The Arroyo Grande, CA-based firm touts its artificial intelligence- and virtual reality-driven orthopedic surgery planning and concierge recovery technologies. The expansion is a deliberate step toward scaling its AI-native surgical planning platform nationally.

It leased 6,000 square feet of office space in the 1875-built, High Victorian Italianate-designed Hoyt Block, 700 W. St. Clair Ave. The property is owned by Independence-based Dalad Group and the deal was secured by Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO Real Estate, also of Independence but with an office downtown.

The Cleveland move puts Kinomatic in one of the country’s densest concentrations of leading hospitals and med-tech innovators, positioning the company for deeper clinical partnerships, increased access to real-world surgical data, and an accelerated path from a single-market success to a multi-market platform.

This strategic step was designed to connect Kinomatic with regional hospitals and surgeons across Cleveland’s market to help improve results, support bundled-payment models and quality measures for hip and knee replacements, and expand access to opioid-sparing, data-driven recovery programs.

These clinical relationships are expected to deliver key insights and real-world use cases that strengthen the platform as it scales, said Shaun Lea, CEO of Kinomatic.

Kinomatic also plans to develop partnerships with local universities to tap into emerging talent, building on a successful internship program that it established with Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.

Kinomatic officials said they chose Cleveland for its business-friendly atmosphere, its central Midwest location for the company’s surgical partners, its proximity to talent and hospital systems, and its appeal for future recruitment.

Robby Martinelli, a senior associate at CRESCO, said it didn’t take much, if any prodding to get them to consider Cleveland for their first expansion outside of California.

“Honestly, their local employees were the biggest advocates towards making Cleveland their East Coast HQ,” Martinelli told NEOtrans. “They genuinely love being here and wanted the company to see what makes the city such a great place to live and work. It’s a huge win for the city of Cleveland.”

He said they currently have 10 employees here and about 40 in California, with plans to expand locally with more than 100 employees in the coming years. The goal is to plant a long-term flag in Downtown Cleveland and add more space.

“Dalad is a good landlord,” Martinelli said. “If they can accommodate the growth, I don’t see them leaving.”
