Sept. 12, 1999 - In the first real Browns game in four years, Chris Palmer benches Ty Detmer during a 43-0 drubbing by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He inserts No. 1 pick Tim Couch in a stunning about-face from "letting the rookie learn a thing or two."
Oct. 19, 2000 - Couch breaks his thumb on the helmet of a defensive teammate during the final play of practice, ending his season. Enter Doug Pederson.
Sept. 8, 2002 - Kelly Holcomb puts on a backup- QB clinic with 326 yards passing and three TDs vs. Kansas City. But then Dwayne Rudd's helmet happens.
Oct. 6, 2002 - Couch, again the starter, is concussed in his own end zone. Fans cheer as he's helped off the field — because they want to see Holcomb.
Aug. 17, 2003 - Butch Davis leaves it up to his gut to choose between Holcomb and Couch. It must have been indigestion. Holcomb goes 2-6 at the helm.
Nov. 28, 2004 - After the Jeff Garcia experiment fails, Holcomb throws for 413 yards and five TDs against Cincinnati. The Browns still lose 58-48. Davis resigns about 30 hours later.
Sept. 11, 2007 - Starter Charlie Frye is traded two days after losing the home opener to the Steelers. Derek Anderson becomes the starter and Brady Quinn becomes the backup. The team goes 10-6.
Dec. 8, 2011 - Third-stringer-turned-starter Colt McCoy takes a helmet-to-helmet hit from Pittsburgh's James Harrison. He sits out two plays, returns to the game, but doesn't remember it. Enter McCoy's father.
Sept. 22, 2013 - After Trent Richardson is traded, third-stringer Brian Hoyer replaces injured Brandon Weeden. Hoyer wins two games before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament while sliding.
May 8, 2014 - After Weeden and Jason Campbell are released, the healed-up Hoyer is feeling good about his job. Then Johnny F@$andin' Football happens.
