Mikey’s Late Night Slice Opening in Ohio City

Mikey’s Late Night Slice, a Columbus-based pizzeria known for its hefty slices, late-night hours, and cheeky style, will open its first Northeast Ohio location. The restaurant has announced its plans to move into the former RAM Electronics building at 1898 W. 25th St., a slender three-story structure built around the turn of the century.

Mikey’s was founded in 2009 by Mikey Sorboro, who began selling slices out of a food truck in Columbus’s Short North neighborhood.

In describing the venture to Ayana Wilson at the Columbus Underground, the team explained, “We wanted to make pizza the way we like to eat it. We were making a place we wanted to go. We had kind of a plan going in; we knew we wanted the place to have a sense of humor without sacrificing what people would come for: a great slice of pizza.”

Since then, the company has gone on to open a dozen shops mostly in Greater Columbus but also Dayton and Cincinnati. After a major renovation of the historic building in Ohio City, Mikey’s plans to open its doors sometime next year. When it does, it will serve slices cut from 18-inch pies, whole pies and signature sauces. Depending on the location, Mikey’s slice shops are open well past midnight. Some continue to serve until 2:30 or 3 a.m.

As the 17-year-old pizzeria continues to expand, it has been eyeing various spots in and around Cleveland for its first foray north of Columbus, says the founder.

“We have been taking our time, looking for the perfect space to house the shenanigans that we’re known for,” says Sorboro. “There are several prospects in the area, but when we found a space in Ohio City that we could make completely our own, we knew it was time to make our move. Getting on the map in Cleveland has been a longtime dream of ours, and we’re ready to plant our roots and throw a pizza party unlike any other The Land has seen before!”

And, adds Sorboro, Ohio City is just the start. The goal is to plant a flag in Ohio City before moving on to additional locations throughout Cleveland, Lakewood and beyond.

This news follows closely on the heels of another announcement by Virginia-based pizza chain Benny’s Pizza, which is opening in a portion of the former Family Dollar space one block to the west.
